Listening session facilitator
A reference card to keep open during a real listening-focused conversation, plus short prompts to prepare beforehand and reflect afterward. Session-only by design - nothing here persists past this browser tab unless you copy it yourself.
- 5 behaviors, 5 prompts
- Session-only - no account or server upload
Keep this open during the conversation
- Listen for the feeling, not just the facts.
- Reflect back what you heard, in your own words, before responding to it.
- Ask a real question instead of offering a fix.
- Notice when you've stopped listening and started rehearsing your reply.
- Tolerate a pause instead of filling it.
How this works
The 5 behaviors are a fixed reference, not something you fill in - keep them visible during the actual conversation. The prepare and reflect prompts are separate, optional free-text fields for before and after. Unlike every other free-text tool on this site, this one is session-only with no persistent-save option at all, since a real reflection about a real conversation shouldn't sit in this browser indefinitely just because the tab happened to stay open.
Frequently asked questions
Why doesn't this save to my account or persist across visits?
By design. This tool holds real, often sensitive notes about a real conversation with a real person - it autosaves only for the current browser tab and is gone once that tab closes. Use "Copy your reflection" if you want to keep it somewhere of your own choosing.
Are the 5 listening behaviors specific to this tool?
No - they're this site's own reference on empathetic listening, used consistently across every hard-conversation tool here, not something unique or proprietary to this page.
Do I have to fill in every field?
No. Answer whatever's useful before or after the conversation - the copy button skips any field you left blank rather than printing an empty label.
Is anything sent to MBA Lab's servers?
No account or server upload is required at any point - everything stays in this browser tab.
