Roles & Ownership

  • Coordinator: [unassigned]
  • Integrator: [unassigned]
  • Quality bar: [unassigned]
  • Liaison: [unassigned]

Roles stay fixed for the term unless the team agrees to change them.

Meetings

We meet weekly, same day and time.

  • Agenda posted 24 hours before or the meeting is cancelled.
  • Meetings start on time with a hard stop.
  • 5-minute grace period, then we start without you.

Communication

  • Group chat (Slack, Teams, or WhatsApp) is our primary channel.
  • Decisions don't live in DMs - anything decided gets posted where the whole team can see it.
  • We respond within 24 hours on weekdays.
  • We'll flag recruiting-season conflicts as early as possible rather than going dark.

Quality Bar & Deadlines

"Done" means:

  • Proofread by someone other than the author.
  • Matches the assignment rubric line-by-line.
  • Submitted at least 2 hours before the deadline, not at the wire.

We build in a 24-hour buffer before the real deadline.

Decisions

We default to consensus. If nobody objects within 24 hours of a proposal, it's approved.

Needs the whole team: [list what always needs everyone]

Conflict & Accountability

  • Raise it directly with the person, privately, as soon as it happens.
  • If that doesn't resolve it, raise it with the whole team at the next meeting.
  • If it's still unresolved, bring in the Coordinator to help mediate.
  • Faculty involvement is reserved for honor-code territory only.

If someone misses three commitments without a heads-up, the team has an honest conversation about whether they're still able to contribute.

We retro after every deliverable.

Peer evaluations contain no surprises - if something's wrong, we say it here first, not just in the eval.

Commitment

By signing below, we commit to the agreements in this charter and to raising it - not abandoning it - if something isn't working.

What is a team charter?

A team charter is a short, written working agreement your team writes together at the start of a course - before a deadline crunch forces the conversation. It covers how you'll meet, communicate, make decisions, hold each other accountable, and what "done" means, so disagreements get resolved against something you all agreed to, not whoever's loudest in the moment.

What to include

The nine things worth deciding as a team before your first deliverable is due:

  1. Team & members. Who's on the team, for which course and term.
  2. Goals & ambition. Are you optimizing for the top grade, a strong and efficient result, or just passing efficiently because your real focus is elsewhere this term? Say it out loud - mismatched ambition is where team conflict usually starts.
  3. Roles & ownership. Who coordinates, who integrates the final deliverable, who checks quality, who talks to faculty.
  4. Meetings. Cadence and the small norms that keep them short.
  5. Communication. Which channel is primary, and what response time is reasonable to expect.
  6. Quality bar & deadlines. What "done" actually means, and how much internal buffer you build before the real deadline.
  7. Decisions. How you'll decide when you don't all agree, and what always needs the whole team's input.
  8. Conflict & accountability. What happens when someone misses a commitment, and how disagreements escalate.
  9. Commitment. A short statement everyone signs, and a date to revisit it.

Why MBA teams need one

MBA team projects compress a semester of group work into a few intense weeks, often with teammates who have very different calendars - recruiting, travel, a full-time job for part-time and executive students. A charter doesn't prevent every disagreement, but it turns "you never said that" into "let's check what we agreed to," which is a much faster conversation to have at 11pm before a deadline.

Frequently asked questions

Is any of this saved on MBA Lab's servers?

No account or server upload is required. Charter content stays in this browser unless you print, copy, or download it.

Do I need every teammate to be present to use this?

No, though it works best projected during a kickoff meeting so everyone sees the document build in real time and can object to a preset before it's final.

Can we change our answers later in the term?

Yes - reopen this page on the same browser and your charter is restored automatically (for 90 days), or download the .md file and keep editing it anywhere.

What if we don't like a preset sentence?

Every section has a free-text field under its presets - add to or override the generated sentence with your own wording.

Can we save this to our MBA Lab team once we sign in?

Not yet in this version - the charter lives in your browser only for now. Saving a charter to your team's hub workspace is planned.

Is there a version we can fill in by hand instead?

Yes - a blank markdown template is available with no builder required.
