Leadership

Free Instructor & Classroom Resource Pack

MBA Lab is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or an official representative of Virginia Commonwealth University.

For faculty, corporate trainers, and student organizations who want to run MBA Lab's leadership scenarios as a real class session or workshop rather than just an individual reading, this is a free, ready-to-use facilitator pack.

What's in it

  • A one-page framework primer (the care/accountability matrix and the eight-step protocol) to introduce before running any scenario.
  • A facilitator guide for each of the six published scenarios: a summary, learning objectives, suggested timing, sequenced discussion questions, common pitfalls to watch for in student responses, and a debrief framework.
  • A general-purpose evaluation rubric across five dimensions - facts vs. interpretation, system diagnosis, care and dignity, accountability and follow-through, and tradeoff awareness - usable across any of the six sessions.
  • A sources section pointing back to the full research report and bibliography for anyone who wants the underlying evidence.

Built entirely from original material

Every scenario, question, and rubric in this pack is MBA Lab's own writing, developed from public leadership research - not adapted from any university's actual course content, assignments, or slides. That's a deliberate choice, not just a legal one: it means the pack can be shared and adapted freely without depending on any institution's permission.

Before your first session

Have students read the relevant scenario article before class, or read it aloud together at the start - the discussion questions assume the group has already seen the "conventional," "poorly executed people-first," and "high-care/high-accountability" responses laid out in the article itself.

Frequently asked questions

Is this pack affiliated with or derived from VCU's actual course materials?

No. Every scenario and framework in this pack is MBA Lab's own original material, built from public leadership research - not from any institution's proprietary assignments, slides, or course content. MBA Lab is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or an official representative of Virginia Commonwealth University.

Can I use this in a for-credit course?

Yes - it's free to use and adapt for classroom, workshop, and student-organization settings. It isn't licensed for commercial resale.

Do I need to run all six scenarios, or can I use just one?

Each scenario guide is designed to run as a standalone 45-60 minute session, so a single scenario works fine on its own. The framework primer at the front is worth introducing regardless of how many scenarios you run, since every debrief refers back to it.
